Bittersweet exists to bring culture to the forefront—real stories and real conversations.
Born out of a desire to see diverse narratives represented in mainstream media in a relatable and authentic way, Bittersweet is about taking up space and shifting narratives.
Where It All Began
We saw a gap in the media space.
Growing up in Australia, we rarely saw people who looked like us openly sharing their stories—at least, not in a way that felt real. Conversations about our experiences were either nonexistent or filtered through a lens that wasn’t ours.
That changed in 2018 when Wintana and former co-host Rahel met in London—one studying, one traveling. There, they saw something different: Black people and people of color taking up space in mainstream media, telling their stories without limits. It was authentic, it was relatable, and, to their surprise, it was the norm.
That was the moment it clicked—we needed to create what we wished we had growing up.
A space for real, unfiltered conversations about life, culture, and everything in between.
The Idea Was Simple
A mic, conversations, and a desire to be heard.
Bittersweet started as a podcast—just two friends talking about the things that mattered to us. But it didn’t take long to realize we weren’t the only ones craving these conversations.
The more we talked, the more our community grew. People saw themselves in our stories, our laughter, and our candid takes. What started as a passion project quickly became something much bigger.
Why We Do It
Because our stories deserve to be told by us, for us.
Bittersweet is beyond creating a space for representation; it’s about ownership. It’s about making sure our voices are valued. It’s about taking up space, reshaping the narrative, and creating a legacy that empowers future generations.
